University Grants Commission (UGC) is the central organization responsible for coordinating, determining, and maintaining the standards of teaching, examination, and research in higher education.
UGC has this month in September 2022, issued a public notice clearing the air on the equivalency of a degree obtained through an ODL and Online mode with a degree obtained through a conventional mode.
The notice is dated 2nd September’22 and signed by Prof. Rajnish Jain (UGC). It informs the general public, students, and stakeholders that “Degrees at the undergraduate and postgraduate level acquired through Conventional or Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and Online modes shall be equivalent.
Further, it talks about the conditions under which it shall be so.
- Higher Educational Institutions offering degrees in the Open and Distance Learning mode and/or Online mode must be recognised by the UGC.
- Degrees must conform with UGC notifications on Specification of Degrees, 2014.
This notification implies that worldwide students interested in pursuing education from India can realise their dreams. They can study in India online ensuring the university is recognised under the UGC regulations and offers UGC-accredited programs.
